I've been back at this for half a year now and I'm 34 lbs down but honestly I'm scared

Long-ish post, sorry. I did this once before — lost about 60 lbs back in 2022, felt amazing, told everyone, then slowly handed most of it back over two years. 45 of it, to be exact. So when I restarted in January I didn't tell a soul except my husband.

Hit the 6-month mark last week: 34 lbs down. Went from a tight 2X to an XL that's actually loose. The things that stuck this time: 30g of protein at breakfast, a 20-minute walk after dinner even when I hate it, and no more eating in the car. That last one was weirder to quit than soda.

Honestly I'm proud, but I'm also waiting for the other shoe to drop. Last time I got to month 7 and started slipping. Anyone else hit a wall right around the same point? What did you do differently the second time around?

The "scared" part is the interesting bit. I pulled my own data when I hit that wall: 2022 loss ran ~1.6 lb/wk, and I regained 80% of it inside 18 months.

This time I'm at 0.7–0.9 lb/wk and my 8-week rolling average has never gone negative, which is the first time I can say that. Slower trendline, boring spreadsheet, zero drama.

Sharp question though: what does your rate look like month over month, and is the loss curve flattening or just noisy? Because 34 lbs in 26 weeks is respectable and predictable, and if your trendline is still pointing down, the fear may be responding to 2022's ghost rather than your actual numbers.

Are you tracking waist or just scale? Mine moved 3 inches before the scale noticed anything in month two.
