Last April I hit my goal, and tomorrow marks 52 weeks of not losing — just holding. I thought maintenance would be a second diet. Mostly it’s been boring logistics. I still buy two rotisserie chickens on Sundays, portion them into containers, and keep frozen edamame in the door.
Dinners are protein, a pile of vegetables, and whatever carb my husband wants. I walk 20 minutes after eating instead of negotiating with myself about the gym. The strangest part: I no longer plan around food.
Last week I went to a birthday party, ate a slice of cake, and didn’t spend the next day compensating. That would’ve been unthinkable two years ago.
I’m not white-knuckling it, but I’m also not asleep at the wheel. For anyone past the first year of maintenance: which habit stayed automatic without you having to think about it?
