The odd metallic water thing in my first days on reta

Hi everyone, I’m brand new here and only a few days into reta. I’m trying not to overthink every twinge, but one odd thing: plain water tastes faintly metallic for about an hour after I drink it, and cold drinks feel almost too cold in my mouth.

It’s not awful, just enough that I keep sniffing my water bottle like it turned. Appetite is quieter, which I expected, but this little sensory weirdness caught me off guard.

Has anyone else had a tiny taste or temperature oddity early on that faded? I know everyone’s different, and I’m just looking for gentle “oh yeah, that happened to me” stories. Thanks for having me.

Welcome. I’m a daily weigher and data nerd, so I get the overthinking. Early on I had that weird metallic edge too—tap water was worst, filtered/room temp less so.

Cold felt almost spicy-cold for a few days, then faded. I started logging it next to my weight as a one-line “sensory note” instead of a symptom, which kept it from becoming a thing. It was gone before my trend line even budged.

Quick q: is it only plain water, or do coffee/tea/seltzer taste off too? That might help you tell whether it’s temperature or the water itself.

fellow dorm rat here. I got the weird cold thing too — ice water felt like my mouth was personally offended by the temperature.

For me, the metal taste was worst with the hallway water fountain; a cheap filter pitcher and a room-temp refillable bottle made it way less noticeable. I started noting it in my phone: fountain = metallic, filtered = meh, bottled = fine.

Worth testing if it’s all water or just certain sources? Also, does coffee or diet soda taste off too, or only plain water?
