Some portion habits stayed after the prescription ran out

I run a small cafe, so there is always a tray of day-old pastries within arm's reach. I was on a GLP-1 for about a year and lost 46 pounds.

I stopped in early spring because of cost and some side effects, not because I had figured everything out. The first month off, my appetite came back like a regular customer.

What surprised me is that some habits stayed: I still split the morning scone in half and save the other half for later, I pack a small salad before the lunch rush instead of grazing through it, and I keep a water glass where I used to keep a sample plate. I am not saying it has been perfect.

Saturday bread smells still win sometimes. But I am within 6 pounds of where I was when I stopped, which feels like a real win in a kitchen full of temptation.

For those who have come off, what was the first habit that stuck around?

I work next to a breakroom snack table, so I feel that arm’s-reach trap. The only thing that helped was putting the pastries in a cabinet, not on the counter, and logging bites before I ate them.

Sounds dumb, but seeing “3 bites = 120 cal” stopped a lot of mindless grazing. I’m also in a long plateau—same 4 lbs for two months—so no wisdom, just solidarity.

Which portion habit actually stuck for you? For me it’s smaller plates, but the autopilot around food I’m near all day is still brutal.
