1am soda to seltzer graveyard

late-night gamer here. i used to crush 2-3 dr peppers during a long session, then wonder why i felt like garbage at 4am.

i’m not gonna pretend the med fixed everything, but around week 6 i noticed i was reaching for the same can out of habit, taking two sips, and putting it back. so i started a stupid little experiment: every time i wanted soda, i poured a cold seltzer in a glass with a squeeze of lime.

sounds fake but the glass thing matters.

now there’s a weird graveyard of half-empty lime seltzers on my desk and one 12-pack of soda has lasted me almost a month. the bigger thing is i’m not white-knuckling it. i just... forget it’s there? anyone else accidentally quit a drink they used to go through constantly?

Fellow cafe person here. My soda trap is the walk-in/cold case—I’ll “test” a can of something fizzy while closing and then take the rest home.

The weirdly effective thing for me was giving the habit a physical speed bump: I kept my late-night seltzer in a separate mini fridge in the garage and only brought one flavor inside. If I wanted a real soda,

The two-sip thing is such a good tell. For me the urge hit during loading screens—I’d grab the can without even looking.

I started jotting a tally in my notes app: every time I reached, I’d note what just happened in the game. Turned out it was 90% boredom/death respawn, not thirst.

So I swapped in a big insulated cup of ice water with a splash of lime seltzer and made myself finish a lap around the kitchen during the respawn. The physical break broke the autopilot.

Now maintaining, and I still have a real soda on raid nights—but it’s
