My smartwatch finally got bored with my resting heart rate

Five months on a GLP-1. Same three walks a week, same sleep chaos, same job.

The only input I changed was appetite and the nightly beer habit. The watch used to ping 'unusually high resting HR' like it was filing incident reports. Last night: silence.

Overnight graph went from sawtooth to nearly flat. No new cardio, no new program.

I just stopped asking my body to process a second dinner and two drinks every night. First metric that moved before the mirror did. The scale is still doing its slow bureaucratic thing. Anyone else have a device snitch on them in a good way?

cafe owner here, so I feel the temptation part — I taste-test all day and the "one shift beer at close" was my reward for existing. My watch used to give me that same jagged overnight pattern and a resting HR creeping up four or five bpm over a week, then dropping on my one day off. The beer timing was the giveaway.

Curious: did your flatline show up on night one, or did it take several days for the watch to stop filing its little reports? Mine apparently needed a week to believe me.

Systems take: you removed a nightly recurring input. My tracker did the same when I cut alcohol—RHR down ~5 bpm and the 2–4 a.m.

sawtooth vanished before any real weight change. Alcohol’s overnight rebound hits HRV and awakenings, not just RHR.

Did your watch log fewer wake events or higher HRV too, or is it only the resting HR number that flattened? If it’s just RHR, that’s a different lever than the med/appetite change.

Curious if your HRV moved too, or just RHR? For me the overnight RHR drop only showed up after I stopped eating within 2 hours of bed — not the alcohol itself.

Same total calories, just earlier. Recomp-wise, that's the tell: if RHR drops but HRV stays flat, it's probably just less digestive load, not better recovery.

If both improve, you actually bought yourself more room for hard sets. What's your watch say for respiratory rate?

That's the one that caught my late-dinner habit before RHR did.
