Scale hasn't budged but my ring fits again

For what it's worth, I’m in week seven of the same 2-pound bounce, and honestly I’m sick of that number. I’m down 34 lbs total, tracking protein around 100g, walking 8k steps most days, and drinking water like it’s my job. The scale is just… parked.

But this morning I grabbed my engagement ring — the updated one we had reset for our anniversary — and it slid on without the usual knuckle fight. I’ve been wearing it on a necklace since last fall because it felt too tight and I was scared to force it.

Today it went on, stayed comfortable through dishes and dog walks, and I actually teared up a little. It’s such a small thing, but it’s proof my body is changing even when the scale is being stubborn.

I’m trying to let that count as a win instead of obsessing over the plateau. Anyone else stuck in a long stall and getting non-scale victories that keep you going?

Same here. Our little pharmacy has one of those old dial scales, and I swear it weighs me different depending on the tile.

I finally started a Sunday morning tape measure: waist at navel, hips, upper arm. Scale stayed parked for almost three weeks, but waist was down 1.5 inches and my rings were sliding. Also same leggings/same hallway mirror pic.

Insurance paperwork had me stressed, and I think that made me cling to the scale more. Have you tried measuring your waist/hips yet? I bet the ring is just the first place your 34 lbs is showing up.

That ring fitting is a legit NSV. I’ve been in a similar spot — 6 weeks flat on the scale, but my sleep ring showed my resting HR dropping and my work pants got loose. When I finally plotted

The ring thing is such a mindfuck in the best way. I’m in a similar park—down about 30, scale frozen for almost a month, but my wedding band spins now and my socks don’t leave deep marks.

What helped me stop spiraling was ditching the daily number and doing a weekly waist/hip measure plus one photo in the same outfit. Turns out I lost an inch off my waist during the “stall.” Are you noticing anything else—sleep, rings, how your watch band sits?

Also, are you weighing at the same time/conditions? That 2-lb bounce can be water, sodium, hormones, whatever.

You’re not doing anything wrong.

I feel this. Running a cafe, my scale stalls when my “tasting tax” creeps up — spoon of sauce, broken cookie, latte foam.

I started keeping a little bowl by the prep sink for all tastes and logging it for one week. Not to restrict, just to see the real picture.

I also started taping my upper arm and calf, not just my waist, and my apron strings crossed differently before the scale moved. Are you tracking anything besides the scale, or mostly going by how clothes feel?

To add a new metric to your pile: I’m a broke dorm rat, so my body-comp tracker is a $1 sewing tape from the dollar store and a pair of freshman-year jeans. The scale has been parked for me too, but my upper arms are less… aggressively fluffy?

The jeans zip without the lying-down ritual. Also, cheap-protein question: what’s your current dorm-friendly MVP?

I’m rotating canned tuna, cottage cheese cups, and microwave chili packets. I need new ideas that don’t require a real kitchen or a trust fund.

Your ring win is giving me hope that my tape measure will eventually agree.

Tbh the ring is the measurement I’d trust over the scale during a 7-week park. Sharp question: is it a full size looser, or just spining more?

I ask because mine sat for almost 6 weeks while my watch band went from notch 4 to notch 2. Then the scale finally moved 3 lbs overnight.

One concrete thing that kept me sane: I logged a “non-scale win” note whenever clothes or rings felt different. By week 7 I had 19 notes. The scale was late, not wrong.

You’re doing the work—your body is just editing in a different order.

Tbh two kids here, so my stalls usually trace back to the 8–10pm window, not daytime. I’d hit protein and steps, then after bedtime I’d graze the snack drawer while packing lunches.

I started a “kitchen closed” alarm at 8:30, made a huge mug of tea, and moved the kids’ snacks into an opaque bin I don’t open. Not magic, but the scale finally dropped after a 5-week park.

Are you noticing your bounce lines up with a certain time of day or crappy sleep weeks? That’s the piece I always miss.

fellow road warrior here. My scale was “parked” for weeks, but my belt notch and watch band kept moving.

Concrete trick: I keep a cheap fabric tape in my dopp kit and measure waist at the hotel desk right after waking, same spot, before coffee. Also I stopped weighing the morning after a flight or a restaurant dinner—sodium and cabin pressure make me retain water like a camel.

Are you tracking any non-scale measurements at all, or just the morning number? If you want a sharper metric, what does your 7-day rolling average look like?

That’s what finally broke my mental stall.

Hey, small-town pharmacy person here too. Ours has one of those free blood pressure machines by the pickup counter, so I started checking it whenever I grab my refills and logging it in my notes app.

Scale parked almost a month, but my BP has been creeping down and my watch band went from notch 4 to notch 2. Also took a monthly mirror pic in the same old jeans — thighs are definitely less friendly to each other now.

Not medical advice, just my nerd log. Are you tracking anything besides the ring, like a belt notch or how a favorite button-up fits?

Those weird little wins kept me from chucking the scale out the window.

Hi OP — brand new here (day 5, still figuring out the forum), and this actually helps me calm down. The ring detail is huge — that’s a real signal when the scale is being stubborn.

I’m curious: have you been taking waist/hip measurements or just photos? I started a tiny notebook with one measurement a week and a photo in the same mirror spot, mostly so I don’t let the daily number run my mood.

Also, does the ring feel looser at the same time of day, or is it all-day now? Sorry if that’s a silly question — still learning what to track.
