Something subtle shifted in my hunger cues this month and I don't know if it's just me or what

I track a few signals each day: hunger before meals, how long I stay satisfied, and whether I’m eating past comfortable. For the first couple of months I wasn’t sure anything was changing.

This past week I’ve noticed I can leave three bites on the plate without a fight, and my usual 3 p.m. restlessness feels more like a passing thought.

It’s not dramatic, which honestly makes me second-guess it. I’m trying to take notes instead of declaring victory.

For those further along, did the changes arrive in small, boring increments like this, or was there a clearer before-and-after point? Grateful for any gentle perspective.

Okay the 3 p.m. restlessness turning into a passing thought is the dream.

I track a dumb 1–10 “afternoon gremlin” score in my notes app, and it’s been weirdly lower on days I actually get protein at breakfast instead of just coffee and a granola bar I stole from the dining hall. Dorm hack that’s helping me leave bites: serve myself in a smaller cereal bowl first, then go back if I’m actually still hungry.

Something about not staring at a giant plate makes stopping less dramatic. Do you notice the three-bite thing more with certain textures/meals, or is it pretty universal now?

Also congrats on the tiny win—I’m jealous and eating string cheese about it.

I track similar: pre-meal hunger 0–10, time to first food thought after eating, and whether I stop at “could eat more” vs “uncomfortable.” The three-bite thing is a solid functional marker—more useful than vague appetite. One thing I added: a 2-minute post-meal note on whether the 3 p.m.

signal was stomach-empty, mouth-bored, or energy-crash. Mine was mostly the latter two, especially after poor sleep or a low-protein lunch. Are you logging the 3 p.m. thought by trigger?

That might tell you if it’s satiety improving or just less reward noise.

Night shift here. My hunger cues were trash until I stopped eating by the clock. Now I track one thing: can I walk away at 7/10 full. If yes, good.

If I'm scraping the bowl, it's a fatigue signal, not hunger. Week 6 was when leftovers started happening for me. Sharp question: are you tracking sleep separately?

My "passing thought" days line up with 6+ hours, not with meals. If I'm under 5, every cue lies.

Night shift here. My hunger cues are garbage at 3 a.m., so I track a different one: can I stop mid-plate and still feel fine 30 minutes later?

Last week I left a few bites of chili and didn’t circle back. That never used to happen. Weirdly it’s clearer on shift than on days off.

Does yours hold when your sleep schedule flips, or only on normal days?

I track one extra bit: “stop cost” — 1 to 5, how much mental effort it took to leave the last bite. It dropped from 4 to 1 around the same time my 3 p.m.

food thought stopped being a command. The variable that moved first was sleep: two nights under 6h and stop cost goes back to 3.

Not saying it’s causal, just the only lever I changed. Have you logged sleep/stress against the three-bite thing?

That’s the comparison I’d want before crediting the med.
