The scale got demoted to a secondary sensor this month

I keep a boring weekly log: five columns, and only one of them is weight. The other four are sleep hours, resting heart rate, whether I cleared 8k steps, and whether I needed an afternoon nap.

Around week nine, the weight column became the least interesting one. Resting heart rate is down 7 bpm. The 3 p.m.

nap block on my calendar went unused four days straight, which felt like a system quietly running cleaner. The one that actually landed, though: the stairwell in my building, four flights, used to require a pause on the second landing.

Last Tuesday I hit my floor mid-sentence on a call and didn't notice until I hung up.

If I could only keep one column, it'd be that one. Everything else is downstream of being able to do ordinary things without budgeting for them.

What's the non-scale reading in your log that moved before the number did?

This is such a good reframe. The unused 3 p.m. nap block is the real trophy. I added two columns: “consistent wake time” and “last caffeine before 2 p.m.” My resting HR dropped more from a steay wake window than from total sleep hours.

Do you track sleep timing, or just hours? Also curious: did the 8k steps get easier after your RHR came down, or did steps come first?

Either way, celebrating that -7 bpm with you!

I really like this. One thing that helped me stop over-reading the scale was comparing only weekly averages, never single days.

I also added a simple “energy at 4 p.m.” score from 1 to 5, because it catches patterns my weight column misses. For me, resting heart rate seems to improve most in weeks when sleep hours are consistent, not just high.

Have you tried lining up your weekly resting heart rate against your sleep column to see whether one tracks the other? That comparison has become the most useful part of my own log lately.

Love this! That unused nap block is the real trophy. What's been helping your sleep lately?

My 3 p.m. nap block is still very much employed, so I’m jealous lol.

Love this. My 3pm nap block is a permanent resident though 😂

The unused nap block is such a quiet flex. Mine's still on my calendar out of pure habit lol.
