Day 65 lift, tape tells more

Small diary entry from this week. I’m 29, about two months in, lifting three mornings a week. Weight has parked around 214 for 9 or 10 days.

My waist tape moved down almost an inch, my belt notch is tighter, and I got 3x8 goblet squats without my lower back complaining. Appetite is calmer, but I still eat breakfast and lunch. I’m trying not to let the scale write the whole story.

For people who lift, what non-scale measure do you actually trust weekly—waist, photos, reps, sleep? And if there’s a plain-language source on why weight can hold steady while measurements change, I’d read it.

Hi—brand-new week-one member here, furiously taking notes. The scale parking at 214 while your belt notch gets tighter is such a petty plot twist; I love that the tape is being the honest friend.

Concrete question: are you taping at the same time of day and same spot each time? I measured my waist after breakfast once and got a number that felt personally rude.

Also, 3x8 goblet squats with a quiet lower back is a win—your lumbar region has officially entered the chat. Do you track tape weekly or just when you remember?

That tape + belt + pain-free squats combo is a really good sign, especially with the scale parked. One tracking thing that helped me was adding a quick “non-scale win” line next to my weight each morning—mine this week was tying shoes without holding my breath.

Are you measuring your waist at the same spot and time each go? I was accidentally measuring a bit lower some days and it made my numbers noisy.

Also curious whether your goblet squat depth has changed now that your lower back is quieter.
