The last kid moved out in January, and I expected freedom. Instead I spent February grazing standing up in the kitchen. What helped was small and unglamorous: a 25-minute loop after dinner, no headphones, just noticing the same dogs and porch lights. My grocery cart changed too — more produce, fewer family-size boxes.
I also started cooking two real portions instead of a full recipe, so leftovers weren’t waiting to be picked at. Since mid-March I’m down 41 pounds, and my knees stopped complaining on the stairs.
I still have evenings where the quiet feels loud, but I make tea and go anyway. For those of you who started after a household change, what habit made the biggest difference early on?
