Fifteen months of maintenance and my resting pulse is still changing

Just past 15 months of maintenance after losing 118 lbs. My weight has stayed inside a 3-lb window the whole time, so I mostly stopped checking daily. But my body is still doing quiet renovations. My waist tape is down 2.25 inches since last winter.

My morning resting pulse dropped from 76 to 65, and I can walk the hill near my house while talking instead of panting. I can also tell tiredness from hunger now, which I couldn't do a year ago.

I'm cautious about over-reading any single day, so I log trends weekly and ask what changed in sleep, stress, and movement. The odd part is these shifts feel more real than the weight ever did. Has anyone else further out noticed their body keep changing after the number went flat? Which signals did you trust most?

That’s a great sign, but I’d be curious how you’re measuring RHR. My watch consistently reads 4–6 bpm higher than my chest strap, especially if I check in bed.

Also: have you changed walking pace/volume? My resting pulse kept drifting down for months after weight stabilized, but it tracked almost 1:1 with weekly zone-2 minutes, not scale weight.

I started logging waist monthly and sleep, and the waist changes lagged the scale by ~6 months. Did your waist drop come with any strength training or just cardio?

That’s the part I’d want to tease out before crediting maintenance alone.

I’m nowhere near 15 months maintenance, but this gives me hope. My dorm “fitness tracker” is a $15 band that mostly yells at me for not sleeping.

Still, my morning pulse went from 82 to 74 just from taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking laps while my microwave burrito rotates. Waist tape is humbling: I measure once a month, usually right after I swear I’ll stop eating dining-hall fries.

Sharp question: did your pulse keep drifting down after your weight stopped moving, or did it plateau and then dip again later? Trying to figure out if morning HR is worth tracking when the scale is boring.

the rhr drift is so weird. mine kept creeping down for like 6 months after my weight stabilized, then plateaued. i’m a late-night gamer so i started logging sleep + morning pulse in a notes app,

Congrats on the quiet renovations. I’m at 11 months maintenance and my scale is boring but my waist tape isn’t. The one thing that moved my morning pulse was sleep, not cardio: when the kids were sick and I was up at 2 a.m., RHR jumped 5-6 bpm for days. Also
