Reading about newly legal peptides while my old log judges me

I lost 64 lbs a couple years ago, gave back 31 of them, and I’m six weeks into climbing out again. So when I saw the news that some peptides are back in play for compounding, my brain did that old thing: hope first, then dread.

The last time I chased every shiny option, I spent more time reading than walking. Today I’m just doing my Sunday weigh-in, my 10-day average, protein at breakfast, and a 20-minute loop after dinner.

I’m not changing anything based on a headline, mostly because my regain history makes me cautious, not because I think anyone else is wrong. I guess I’m curious whether this news landed as exciting for other people or just stirred up the “what if I’m missing something” noise.

Did it make you want to research, or did it make you want to close the tab and go for a walk?

Welcome back to the climb. I’m maintaining after losing 70-ish, and the only thing that kept me sane was separating “information” from “action.” My Sunday ritual is boring: coffee, same scale spot, log the number, close the app.

Then I put a check on the wall calendar for every 20-minute walk I got that week. Last week: 4 checks. Not impressive, but it’s data I can steer.

When the shiny-option itch hits, I give it 24 hours and go walk first. What’s the one non-scale marker you’re tracking for these next six weeks?

Tbh the thing that broke the hope-dread loop for me was adding a second scoreboard. Sunday weigh-in stays, but I also log my top set on squats and a waist measurement at the navel every four weeks.

Last cut I stalled on the scale for 19 days while my squat went up 15 lbs and the tape dropped half an inch — old me would've panicked and started researching something shiny. New me just ate the same food and slept.

Curious: when you gave back the 31, was it the scale that spooked you first, or was it the mirror and the lifts telling you before the number did? Because I think most of my regains started in the gym, not the kitchen.

One thing that saved my sanity on round two: I stopped letting a single Sunday number have veto power. I weigh daily and only pay attention to the 7-day average — the daily readings are chaos, the average moves in a boring straight line. Same with recomp.

I log waist at the navel and my top set on squats, so when the scale stalls for three weeks but the tape drops half an inch and I add a rep, I know it's working instead of spiraling about it. What's your non-scale marker this time around?
