My breakfast rut got solved by an old cereal box

I’m the kind of person who forgets breakfast until my stomach starts complaining. Last week the pharmacy line stretched halfway to the vitamin aisle, so I wandered over and grabbed a box of Raisin Ban on a whim.

Now I’ve had it three mornings in a row: one bowl, cold milk, sliced banana, and I’m actually set until lunch. It’s not fancy, and nobody’s writing a cookbook about it, but it’s easy and it doesn’t leave me rummaging for crackers by 10.

My refill pickup is still a whole production, and the grocery bill made me blink, but this one small routine is sticking. Does anyone else have a breakfast that’s basically boring but keeps the day from going sideways?

I run a cafe, so my breakfast temptation is usually the day-old pastry tray, not the cereal aisle. What finally helped me was keeping a 1-cup scoop right in the Raisin Bran box and using a smaller bowl—if I free-pour, that “one bowl” turns into two real fast.

Sliced banana is smart; I also add a spoon of Greek yogurt or a few walnuts when I know lunch will run late. Do you actually measure the cereal, or are you eyeballing it?

I’m curious because eyeballing is where my portions go off the rails.

this is weirdly motivating. my breakfast rut is more like 2am gamer cereal, which is probably why my tracking app looks like a raccoon got into it.

the sliced banana is smart though, ads actual volume so a smaller bowl still feels like a meal. question: do you pre-slice/portion the banana or just wing it?

i found pre-portioning cereal into little containers killed the “oops half box” thing for me, and it made logging stupid easy. also raisin ban is a great cereal name, sounds like a banned pokemon.
