Keep muscle at goal weight

The scale has been parked in the same two-pound band since March, which I assumed would feel like a victory and mostly feels like homework. I'm 58, both kids are out of the house, and it's quiet enough now to actually hear myself think about food.

What's changed: I cook twice a week, a big pot of something Sunday and a sheet pan Wednesday, and I walk the long loop past the school most mornings, 40 minutes if I don't stop to chat with the crossing guard. I added two days of garage lifting with a used pair of dumbbells and some bands.

Down 87 total, but these last months have been less about the number and more about carrying groceries in one trip and getting up off the floor without planning the maneuver first.

Recomposition is slower than I expected. My arms are firmer. The waistband has not moved. That's a strange kind of progress to sit with.

For anyone past the losing part — how do you keep it interesting without it turning into a second job?

Fellow scale-stuck person here. Dorm protein hack: canned tuna + mayo packets from the dining hall, cottage cheese with everything bagel seasoning, and eggs microwaved in a mug (looks like a crime scene, tastes fine).

When my weight parked, I started tracking reps and how many grocery bags I could haul in one trip instead—nerdy, but it stopped me from spiraling at the scale. Since you cook Sunday and Wednesday: are you rotating proteins or is it the same big pot until you resent it?

My rotation usually dies by Tuesday and I eat cereal for dinner, so I need ideas.

Honestly, hi, I’m brand new here too—week one, mostly lurking and taking notes. The quiet-house part really hit me; I didn’t expect the food noise to get louder when the kids left.

Something concrete that’s helping me not panic about the scale: I track one strength thing, like push-ups before my form breaks, and one protein anchor per meal, usually cottage cheese or leftover chicken from the Sunday pot. Sharp question: when you make that big Sunday pot, do you portion it into containers with a set protein amount, or just eat it until it’s gone?

I’m trying to figure out whether batch cooking helps me keep muscle or just makes me bored of chili. Congratulations on maintenance—it sounds oddly hard.
