I'm not spiraling over my 10-day average of 199.4

I weigh every morning before coffee, log it, and then leave the number alone. I only check the 10-day average on Sundays. This week it read 199.4, down from 414 when I started tracking 21 months ago.

The daily numbers have bounced between 198.6 and 203.2, which is just salt, sleep, and whatever my guts are doing. Old me would have let a 203 morning rewrite the whole week.

Now I look at the slope: roughly 0.9 lb a week, hunger steady, afternoon walk stll non-negotiable. I don't feel like a different person.

I feel like the same person with less static in the background.

If you're sitting in the 200s and the daily bounce is loud, the average can move before your feelings catch up. What's your go-to check when the scale gets dramatic?

I’m a daily weigher too. The thing that helped me was adding a 30-day average as the “real” line and using the 10-day as a weather report.

Last month my 10-day jumped 2.8 lbs after a salty dinner and a hard workout, then slid back over five days. The 30-day barely moved 0.4. Do you ever look at a longer window, or is 10 days your sweet spot?

Also, 414 to 199.4 is incredible—congrats on the patience.

late night gamer here too. the thing that helped me trust the average was tagging my log: “late raid” nights vs normal sleep.

turns out 2am ramen + a soda had me up 2-3 lbs for like 3 days, then it vanished. i’m doing a slow soda-swap experiment (regular -> zero -> seltzer) and my 7-day avg is way less jagged.

do you note sodium/sleep/caffeine in your log at all, or is it strictly the number? also 414 to 199

Nice work. The 10-day average is a solid filter. Something that helped me when I started lifting 4x/wk: I pair Sunday’s average with a waist measurement at the navel and one relaxed front photo, same lighting.

Last recomp my scale hung around 202 for almost a month while my waist dropped an inch and my main lifts moved up. The scale wasn’t wrong, just incomplete. Are you tracking tape too, or letting the weekly average carry it?

Also, do you note whether Sunday follows a rest day or a heavy lower session? That’s usually a 2–3 lb water swing for me.
