Will tall zip-up boots ever stop being a wrestling match?

Hi everyone, I’m brand new here and a little nervous about posting. I’m only three days into my first week, so I know basically nothing yet.

Tonight I tried on a pair of tall zip-up boots that I keep at the back of the closet because the calf area has always been a fight. I got the left one zipped, but I sat down right away like it might explode.

I’m 5'4" and hovering around 210, and my calves have always been the last place to cooperate. I’ve been walking 15 minutes after dinner and drinking water, mostly because it gives me something to do besides doom-scroll.

Is it silly to hope boots might be a place I notice change early, or should I just hide them again for a few months? Thanks for having me.

Welcome — posting on day three takes courage. Tall boots are my favorite non-scale gauge, but they are so noisy early on.

I keep a soft tape in the bathroom and measure each calf at the widest point once a week, same morning, then track the weekly averge rather than any single day. My calves often differ by about half an inch, so I note both.

Are your boots leather or synthetic? Leather can relax a little with wear or a cobbler; synthetic tends to hold firm.

For now, maybe just zip them while seated and don’t force it. You are not behind.

I started logging calf circumference with my other measurements. Mine can be 1/2 inch bigger by evening, so I try boots on before breakfast now.

Also check the listed shaft circumference—not just the size—and a full-length elastic back panel buys way more room than a leather pair that juuust zips. Where does yours bind: widest calf or right above the ankle?

That’s the spot I’d measure monthly.
