The hair shed showed up months after I quit — normal?

I came off my GLP-1 in March after roughly a year on it. Lost 48, regained 14 during a rough stretch, and now I’m back to protein shakes, walks, and tracking again. The strange part is my hair didn’t thin much while I was on it.

Around June, my shower drain started looking like a small animal, and my part seems wider to me. I’m trying not to spiral, using a wide-tooth comb, and making sure I actually eat enough. Did anyone else’s shedding show up late like this? How long did it take to settle down for you?

Not asking for a diagnosis, just want to hear other people’s timelines.

Hey, I’m glad you posted instead of spiraling alone. The delayed timing can really mess with your head. Mine showed up about 3–4 months after a big loss/stress stretch too — shower wall was alarming.

What helped was taking one photo a month in the same bathroom light instead of checking daily. Also, when you got back to protein shakes and walks, did your overall calories come back up enough, or were you accidentally undereating again?

That’s the piece I’d track alongside protein. Not medical advice, just what I wish I’d noticed.

You’re already doing the boring consistency stuff, and that counts. Hang in there.

hey, I work at our little pharmacy and went through a delayed shed too — mine hit around month four after my weight came down, not while I was losing. The thing that kept me sane: same Sunday morning bathroom light, part photo, and a soft tape measure around my ponytail once a month.

The shower drain looked apocalyptic, but the ponytail number barely budged. Are you seeing any little fuzzy short hairs along your part yet?

That was my first sign things were cycling back. Hang in there — the drain phase is scary, but it’s slower than it looks.

I’m in a small town, so our pharmacy counter is basically the town confessional—hair questions come up a lot. I came off mine a while back too, and my shed was delayed, not immediate.

What helped me not spiral was boring tracking: same bathroom light, same part, photo every Sunday, and a sticky note tally of shower hairs.

Mine peaked around week 5 and slowly tapered. Are you seeing any short fuzzy baby hairs along your part or hairline yet? That was my first sign things were cycling back.

Also, getting back to regular walks and an actual breakfast seemed to calm my stress shed more than anything topical. Insurance wouldn’t cover fancy anything anyway, so I just kept it simple. Hang in there.

One thing that helped me stop spiraling was getting specific: I put a fine strainer over the drain and checked whether the shed hairs had the tiny white bulb at the root or were short broken pieces. Mine were mostly bulbs, so I tracked wash-day vs. non-wash-day counts and took same-light part photos on the 1st.

Are you seeing more shed on wash days, or pretty even? Also, gently curious—how’s your protein actually landing on the days you don’t shake?

That was the first place my own tracking got fuzzy.

I had a delayed shed too — barely anything during the loss, then around month 3–4 after a stressfl stretch and tightening my calories, my drain looked like a small rodent. It peaked for maybe six weeks, then slowed.

What helped me not spiral: same lighting/angle hairline pics every two weeks, a drain catcher so I could see the real amount instead of imagining it, and front-loading protein at breakfast. Are you in a steep deficit right now, or is this more maintenance/regain stress?

That timing might tell you more than the scale.

The delay is mind-bending, but mine tracked more with the rough stretch than the quit date. I kept a dumb phone note: wash-day shed, protein estimate, sleep, steps, and weigh-ins.

My worst shower drains were the weeks I was undereating protein and sleeping 5–6 hours, not the weeks right after I stopped. Once I added a real breakfast and kept walks boring and consistent, the shed slowed over about two months.

Also took monthly part photos in the same bathroom light—my part hadn't actually moved much; my density at the ends had. Did yours ramp during the regain/stress window or after you restarted shakes and tracking?

That timing might tell you more than the calendar.
