Chart says boring wins after 11 weeks of desk breakfast

Eleven weeks ago I started logging every workday breakfast in my sheet — column A is what I ate, column B is protein grams, column C is whether I cleared 30g before 9am. Turns out I've eaten the exact same thing on 47 of 61 workdays: two hard-boiled eggs, half a cup of cottage cheese, black coffee.

Roughly 34g protein, about 320 calories, eaten at my desk in six minutes flat. My rolling four-week trendline says those weeks average 0.4 lb down.

The weeks I caved and grabbed a pastry from the cart average 0.1. Everyone keeps telling me I need variety so I don't burn out, but the data doesn't care about my feelings and neither does my appetite at 7am.

Mildly annoyed that the boring answer keeps winning.

Curious whether anyone else has tracked this — do your repeat breakfasts beat your "fun" ones, or am I just wired weird?

Boring wins is right. I plugged your numbers into my cost sheet: 2 eggs ~$0.55, 1/2 cup cottage cheese ~$0.85, coffee ~$0.15 = ~$1.55, or ~4.6¢ per gram of protein. That’s stupidly efficient.

My usual Greek yogurt + scoop is ~$2.10 for 31g, so I’m jealous. Question: do you boil eggs in one Sunday batch or split it?

I tried 5 days at once and by Thursday they smelled like regret. Also, has cottage cheese been in stock for you lately?

My local store is 50/50, which is the only reason my breakfast rotates.

This tracks with an old thread here about decision fatigue before 9am. I ran an 8-week version: same eggs + Greek yogurt, but logged hunger at 10:30 and 2pm.

On boring days where I cleared 30g early, my 2pm snack urge dropped from 5/10 to 2/10. Wildcard breakfasts, even calorie-matched, had me hunting crackers by 3. One column I’d add: lunch appetite 1–5. It helps separate the protein effect from plain routine.

What did your 14 non-repeat mornings look like—travel, late nights, or just weekends bleeding into the workweek?

this is weirdly motivating. I've been logging my breakfast for 6 weeks and it's the only meal I don't have to think about.

But my plateau didn't budge until I started logging the "little bites" while cooking dinner — turns out I was adding 200-300 cal before I even sat down. Your 47/61 consistency is goals though. Question: what do the other 14 days look like? That's where my chart gets embarrassing.

I’m in maintenance and my breakfast is almost identical: Greek yogurt, chia, frozen berries. The metric I’d add to your sheet is a 1–5 hunger score at 11am. When my protein is front-loaded, that number is boringly low, and lunch decisions get way easier.

Out of curiosity, what happened on the 14 days you didn’t eat your usual? Were they travel days, or did you just get bored and swap? I’ve found the swap days are useful data — not failures, just evidence of

I run a similar sheet, but I added two columns: prep minutes and days-to-expiry on the cottage cheese. Sunday I batch-boil 18 eggs and portion five 1/2-cup cottage cheese containers; that’s ~22 min and covers Mon–Fri.

The boring version takes me 4 min to assemble vs 9+ min for anything else, and that 5-min gap is honestly why I don’t bail by Wednesday. The 34g before 9am also flattens my 11am snack urge way more than a bagel ever did. Do you track weekends too?

My Sat/Sun column is a disaster and I’m wondering if that’s worth fixing or just accepting.

I keep a nearly identical tab, but I shade the protein cell green/yellow/red. My shocking finding: the 14 days I didn’t eat my usual weren’t adventurous, they were days I never boiled eggs.

The breakfast itself is boring; the grocery/prep gap is the chaos point. Curious — do your 14 non-repeat days cluster around Sundays or nights you got home late? That’s the only variable I’ve been able to move. Also, 47/61 is quietly impressive.

I’m back after regaining and trying to make the boring thing the default again, not a personality test.

Honestly, love this. I do a similar log but added a weekend column, and my boring weekday streak made me realize my Saturday pancake habit was the real wild card.

I keep a sticky note on the fridge: 2 eggs, cottage cheese, coffee. My small-town pharmacy is two doors from the insurance office, so I walk there Tuesdays just to get out—not buying anything, just a loop.

Do you keep the same breakfast on weekends, or does the streak reset Saturday?
