My chart now says overweight, and somehow I’m oddly calm about it

I had my annual physical this morning. The nurse read my BMI as 27.4 — overweight, not obese — and I actually laughed, because for years that word felt like a verdict. I’m 5-foot-7 and hovering around 173, down from 291. But the part that surprised me was how little the label moved me.

What mattered more: I’ve kept my same grocery list, Sunday walk, and morning yogurt for about 16 months without white-knuckling it. The chart caught up to a life I already had.

Not confetti exactly, more like a shrug and a coffee. For those in maintenance, did the category labels ever catch up mentally, or did you stop caring before the chart did?

That calm is such a flex — and way more portable than a scale. I’m on the road most weeks, so my version of your Sunday walk is an airport-terminal loop: carry-on only, no moving walkways, podcast on, one lap per layover.

In hotels, I ask for a mini-fridge and keep the same breakfast: Greek yogurt, frozen berries, almonds. Not glamorous, but it keeps my brain from treating every trip like a free-for-all.

Curious: what’s on your grocery list these days? I need new room-temp or mini-fridge staples that don’t require a kitchen.

Tbh i hit that same “overweight” line in April — 5'6", 168, down from 260. What got me was my insurance portal’s cheerful BMI update and my little pharmacy’s automated refill reminder landing the same day.

I taped both next to my Sunday grocery list. That number finally isn’t the boss of me, but my tape measure is: waist’s down 11 inches.

Did your nurse check waist-to-height, or just BMI? I’ve started using belt notches as a tracker, and it’s surprisingly motivating.

Congrats on 118 down — that’s small-town parade worthy.
