My mirror lags my spreadsheet by about three weeks

I keep a boring log: weight, waist, sleep, protein, steps, mood. Six columns. The waist column dropped first — 4.5 cm down — and my resting heart rate followed. The mirror, however, is still on version 1.0. I can see the data change before I can see me change.

It’s mildly annoying, but also useful: the reflection is a lagging indicator, not the actual signal. My brain wants a dramatic reveal; the spreadsheet just wants another data point. Anyone else have a visual lag? How long before your reflection caught up to your numbers?

I do the same nerdery. One thing that helped me trust the lag: I added a “clothes” column with binary fits (jeans button, belt notch, t-shirt drape) and a weekly photo in the same doorway light.

My waist trendline moved around day 10, photos around day 24, almost exactly your three weeks. Question: is your 4.5 cm from one spot or an average of two?

I measure at navel and midway, and the average smooths out morning bloat. Also, are you plotting a 7-day rolling average?

Raw waist bounces enough to fake a plateau.

Night shift here too. My face holds water after a run of nights, so the mirror is extra useless. What helped: waist at the same time every day, right after waking, before coffee or water.

Same tape, same spot, don't suck in. And photos — same bathroom, same light, no shirt, once a week. The tape and resting HR are honest.

The mirror just shows me whatever last night did. Give it three weeks, it'll catch up.

Your log sounds like mine, just tidier. The first thing that actually moved for me was heart-rate recovery after my after-dinner walk: same loop, same pace, and I could talk a full sentence sooner.

That happened weeks before the mirror updated. Now I jot down a 0–5 “could I add a block?” score in the same note.

Have you tried a fixed recovery check instead of just resting heart rate? It made the lag feel less like I was doing something wrong and more like the body is just slow to redraw.
