My weekly averages are steady, but my meals are in a rut

For what it's worth, i have been keeping weekly averages instead of reacting to daily scale noise, and that has helped. What I am noticing lately is that my food has become efficient to the point of boring: Greek yogurt and berries most mornings, a chicken-and-roasted-vegetable bowl at lunch, and salmon or tofu with salad at night.

It works, but by Thursday I am not excited about any of it. I am seven months in and down 28 pounds, so I do not want to overhaul what is working.

I just need two or three fresh additions that are simple, protein-forward, and gentle on a smaller appetite. What is one meal or snack you have added recently that still feels appealing after the novelty wears off?

your three meals sound like my “uniform” too. What broke the rut for me was keeping the same protein/veg but changing the finish: chimichurri on chicken, harissa + lemon on salmon, or pesto stirred into the yogurt.

I also pick one new vegetable each week while I’m on my after-dinner walk—last week shishitos, this week cabbage wedges. Tracking stays easy, but dinner feels less like fuel.

Curious: is your rut more about flavor, texture, or the shopping/cooking routine? For me it was texture—everything had gotten soft.

I’m in hotels 3–4 nights a week, so my rut is the same but with worse lighting. What helped was a “format flip” instead of new recipes: same chicken/veg becomes a wrap with a lavash I grab at the airport, or a cold plate with hummus and cucumber.

Also, I buy one weird item at the hotel-adjacent grocery—kimchi, pickled onions, a mango—and that’s the only variable. It makes the uniform feel intentional, not sad.

Do you ever change the format, or is it always a bowl?

One thing that helped me keep the weekly-average tracking but break the meal rut: I made a “modifier” list instead of new recipes. Same yogurt/berries or chicken bowl, but rotate acid+heat+crunch—lemon/za’atar, gochujang/lime, miso/ginger, plus toasted seeds or pickled onion.

I log it as a separate “variety” note, not in the calorie average. It’s more an adherence thing than anything metabolic—in the trials, boring is often the point—but it makes the same template feel less like a chore.

Curious whether your rut is flavor, texture, or just decision fatigue?
