Three boring inputs beat my elaborate tracking system

Stopped trying to optimize every meal and cut it to three inputs: 40g protein before 10am, 7k steps, lights out by 11. Tracked them in a plain notes app for ten weeks, nothing else.

Down 11, but the real win is no 9pm pantry negotiation. Two out of three still got most of the result.

The rest was noise wearing a lab coat.

What's the smallest variable set you've found that actually moves your weekly average?

I’m in a stubborn plateau too, so this helps. Which of the three did you drop when only two worked?

For me, steps were the sneaky one: 7k spread across the day did nothing for the pantry thing, but a 15-minute walk right after dinner killed it. Lights out by 11 is the one I fight hardest and the one that seems to move my weekly average most. Protein by 10am is easy now.

Curious whether your two-out-of-three combo still worked on weekends or travel, because that’s where my system usually implodes.

Love this—11 lbs and no 9pm pantry negotiation is a huge win. My smallest variable was a 10-minute walk right after dinner, not for calories, just to break the sit-then-snack loop.

If I parked on the couch with a show, I was back in the cabinets by 9. Did your notes app show a weekend/weekday split?

Mine always looks consistent Mon

I’ve got two kids and 6pm is basically a hostage situation, so I stole a version of this. My third input is an 8:45 kitchen close: set out tomorrow’s yogurt/eggs, fill water bottles, then loop a hair tie around the snack drawer handle.

Sounds dumb, but the drawer being “locked” stops the 9pm lean-and-scan. If I’m truly hungry, I have one string cheese standing at the counter, then lights out.

Curious: on your 2/3 days, was protein the keystone, or did any combo work? I’m trying to figure out which one to protect when the week goes sideways.

The “no 9pm pantry negotiation” line is the real trophy. My smallest road variable is a hotel-room rule: phone charges across the room, and I do a 10-minute concourse lap every layover instead of camping at the gate.

That alone keeps my step count from flatlining on travel days. Did you count airport/hotel walking toward the 7k, or was it a strict “real walk” thing?

I’m curious if your 2-out-of-3 result held during messy travel weeks, because those are where my systems usually go to die.
