Keeping steady while everyone still has a suggestion

I’m 14 months into maintenance after losing 70 lbs, and the odd part is how many people still offer advice. Cut carbs, fast longer, lift heavier, track every bite — I listen, nod, and then go back to my boring routine: protein at breakfast, 7k steps, two strength sessions a week.

I’m not chasing a new plan; I’m just trying to protect the one that got me here. For those further out, how do you handle unsolicited suggestions without either arguing or pretending you’re going to overhaul everything?

Boring is underrated. My version: same breakfast (eggs + Greek yogurt), same 3 snacks in the drawer for the 4pm chaos — cheese sticks, turkey jerky, those little almonds.

Kids eat crackers next to me, I don't care anymore. One thing that helped was a "done" list instead of a to-do list: protein, steps, 2 lifts.

If those are checked, every other suggestion gets a polite nod. Question though — how do you handle the holidays or birthdays when the routine gets blown up for a week?

Do you restart clean or just pick the next meal?

One thing that made the advice easier to field: I keep a monthly “maintenance review” — weight range, waist, sleep hours, my two main lifts, and a quick note on hunger/energy. If those are steady over three months, unsolicited plans get a polite nod and nothing else.

It also gives me a real trigger for changing something, so I’m not just being stubborn. Do you have a cutoff like that — what would actually make you consider a new plan?

Curious, because “it’s working” is hard to argue with, but I like knowing my own off-ramp.
