Monthly averages after 84 pounds: appetite, steps, resting heart rate

I’m not a daily-scale person. I log weekly averages, waist, resting HR, steps, and protein.

Started at 269, now 185 over roughly 30 weeks. Early loss was fast; last 8 weeks it’s 0.7–1.1 lb/week.

The non-scale changes are more consistent: RHR down 13 bpm, waist down 10.5 inches, fewer 3 p.m. vending impulses. Hunger isn’t gone, but it’s quieter and less urgent.

What I’m trying to parse: how much of the slowdown is expected math versus underreporting when meals get less structured. Anyone else tracking non-scale variables and seeing the same deceleration?

Nice data. One thing I’d separate out: RHR often tracks sleep debt and alcohol more than scale weight for me.

I log sleep hours + glasses of wine next to weekly RHR, and a 2-drink Friday can bump my weekly average 3–4 bpm even when weight is flat. Are you tracking sleep or HRV at all?

Also curious what your weekly step average is now vs early on—if it climbed a lot, that could explain part of the 13 bpm drop independent of the 84 lb. For the 3 p.m. thing, a 30g protein lunch + 10-min walk killed my vending urge more than willpower did.

This is a thoughtful way to track it. I also switched to monthly averages because weekly numbers were being skewed by salty dinners and workout soreness.

One pattern I noticed: my resting heart rate fell most in months when I kept two full-body strength sessions weekly, even when the scale barely moved. The other tell was protein consistency—when my weekly average slipped, my late-afternoon appetite got noticeably louder within a few days.

Have you compared your monthly step average against those hunger shifts? I’d

yo the average thing is smart. i’m a chaotic late-night gamer and daily weigh-ins made me rage-quit. one thing that helped was tracking 7-day steps + rhr in the same note as my soda swap.

my rhr dips hardest on weeks my step avg is up like 1.5k, even whn the scale stalls. weirdly my 3pm snack urge tracks sleep way more than protein. did your rhr drop mostly early or keep creeping down after the first 40ish lbs?

also what’s your protein avg on low-appetite days? that’s where i always fall short.

This is such a good reminder to look at the dashboard, not just the scale. A 10.5-inch waist and 13 bpm RHR drop is huge.

I’m curious—did your steps climb gradually, or did you set a floor and hold it? I ask because my 3 p.m. cravings track way more with my lunch protein/fiber and whether I got a 10-minute walk after eating than with my weekly loss.

Maybe check your average steps on higher vs lower hunger weeks? You’re doing great.

the vending impulse thing is huge. i swapped my late-night gaming soda for a rotation of diet root beer, cold brew, and sparkling water, and the 3pm bored-hunger signal got way quieter.

weirdly my rhr tracks sleep more than weight now—if i’m up till 3am raiding, it jumps 4-5 bpm for a couple days. do you log monthly step avg or weekly?

i’m debating switching to monthly for the same reason, daily numbers make me nuts. also curious if your protein avg stayed flat while loss slowed, or if you bumped it when you noticed the 0.7-1.1 range.

Tbh i track a 28-day rolling average instead of weekly; it keeps me from overreacting to a salty weekend. My RHR barely budged until I added a 10-min walk after dinner—then it dropped 4 bpm over a month.

Steps average 7.5k, and weeks I hit 9k+ the scale usually catches up 3–5 days later. Do you keep protein steady on higher-step days, or bump it?

My evening hunger follows step aveage way more than I expected.

I’m in a similar slog—down 92, stuck around 181 for almost 10 weeks. The thing that snuck up on me was steps.

I was still hitting my old weekly average, but the distribution got lazy: 11k on workout days, 3k on couch days. Set a non-negotiable 6k floor and added a 10-min loop after dinner.

Waist finally moved 0.75" while scale barely budged. Do you look at day-to-day step variance or just weekly total?

My weekend protein average was also dragging everything down, so I started logging a Sunday number instead of pretending it didn’t happen.

This is such a useful check-in. I track weekly averages too, but I’ve started noting a simple “hunger wave” at 2 p.m.

and 8 p.m., plus whether I front-loaded protein earlier. The surprising bit for me was that my RHR dropped most on weeks when my step count was steadier, not necessarily higher—fewer big weekend spikes.

Curious: did your RHR keep drifting down gradually as your waist changed, or did most of that 13 bpm show up earlier on?
