I've been using 0.5mL 31g insulin syringes for about six weeks and finally weighed the dead space. Drew 0.1mL BAC water into ten syringes, depressed fully, weighed residual water on a 0.001g scale.
Average left behind was 0.006g, worst was 0.009g. That's roughly 0.17mL lost over 28 draws.
Not huge, but annoying when vials are small.
I keep my BAC water in the fridge door and a 3mL luer lock with a 30g needle in a case. Anyone else measured? Is luer lock actually lower loss, or just more supplies to store?
