Hotel eggs became my food enemy

Hotel breakfast buffets used to be my favorite part of road life. Now I walk in, hit that warm chafing-dish fog, and my whole appetite leaves the building. Scrambled eggs especially — not the taste, the smell.

It’s like my brain files it under 'wet sponge that has seen things.' Last week in Des Moines I ended up with a yogurt, a banana, and a sad packet of peanut butter, which is basically my travel breakfast now. Weird part: I still like eggs at home when I make them myself. Same food, totally different vibe.

Anyone else have a food that got demoted after starting this whole journey? I’m not judging, I just want to know I’m not the only one hiding from a buffet line.

I travel a lot too, and hotel eggs now smell like a steam iron hitting a gym towel to me. What helped was not forcing the buffet: I grab plain Greek yogurt, a banana, and a packet of almond butter I bring, then eat it in the room.

It feels less like a sad plate and more like neutral fuel. Tracking-wise, I weigh daily and only care about the 7-day average; a weird hotel breakfast is one noisy point, not a trend.

Is it only eggs for you, or do sausage/hash brown smells also kill it? If it’s the whole chafing-dish zone, a cold breakfast plus coffee outside the room might be the move.
