I went nine days without pre-logging hotel meals

Nine days, three hotels, two client sites. Usually I map every meal before I leave, but this time I let the trip be messy.

Breakfast was watever the hotel had plus a yogurt I brought. Lunch was a protein bar between meetings.

Dinner was a grocery salad and sometimes fries. I expected the scale to yell. It didn't. I also didn't track every bite.

The weird part: I was less obsessed with the snack wall in the lobby shop. Not saying it's a strategy. Just noticing my all-or-nothing brain screamed louder than my appetite. Anyone else drop a travel habit and find it was smaller than feared?

This is weirdly comforting. I regained 30 after a loss and I’m back to pre-logging everything, but my last work trip I didn’t log and the scale didn’t move either.

I think for me it was all the airport walking plus no evening snack habit since I was in a hotel room with nothing in the minibar I wanted. Did you notice your step count or whether you were less likely to graze at night?

That’s the part I’m trying to figure out—whether freedom helps or just changes the damage.

The sodium/carb/glycogen angle is what I’d be curious about: hotel breakfast + grocery salad + fries can swing water and gut content a lot, and in the trials I’ve read, short-term scale noise often tracks that more than fat. Nine days is also short enough that a flat scale isn’t really proof of anything—comforting, but not a free pass.

Did you notice appetite or energy changing when you weren’t pre-planning every bite? I’ve found a middle ground is pre-logging just one anchor meal (protein + produce) and letting the rest be messy.

Keeps the habit without the trip turning into a spreadsheet.

Honestly, the fries plus hotel breakfast sodium would have me expecting a water bump, so a flat scale is interesting. Did you weigh at the same time each morning, or was that a single post-trip number?

My last trip looked fine until day 3 back, then popped up 2 lb for a week. Also curious whether not pre-logging changed your dinner portions or just removed the mental overhead.

In the trials adherence tends to track with burden, so a messy week that keeps the protein bar/grocery salad defaults might be more sustainable than perfect mapping.
