Scale flat, gym log didn't

Seven months in, 41 pounds down, and then the scale parked around 204 for five weeks. Annoying. My food tracking is steady, water is fine, sleep is decent, and the med is doing its part. I added two incline walks and a third strength session.

This week my squat went from 65 to 80 pounds, and I carried all the groceries in one trip without puffing. The number still won’t budge. I know that’s not nothing, but I want the scale to acknowledge the work too.

Anyone else had a long flat stretch where performance improved before the weight moved? How did you keep from bargaining with the scale?

Five flat weeks with a 15-lb squat jump screams body recomp to me, not failure. When I added a third lifting day, my scale stalled about a month but my waist dropped ~1 inch and resting HR fell a few bpm.

New training can hold extra water/glycogen in muscle and mask fat loss. In the trials I’ve read, scale weight is a noisy endpoint.

Did you take waist/hip measurements or progress photos before the stall? If not, do it now — same spot, first thing, weekly average.

That’s the number I’d watch alongside your gym log.

ugh, the five-week flat stretch is so mind-gamey—but a 15-lb squat jump plus one-trip groceries is legit proof your body is remodeling. I’d add a tape measure check: waist at navel, hips, and upper thigh once a week, same time, and a quick note on how stairs/fit feel.

When my scale stalled, my waist kept dropping a half inch every 2-3 weeks even while strength went up. Question: are you logging your walks’ incline/speed or just time?

Bumping incline slowly gave me a measurable win when weight didn’t move. Also, how’s recovery after adding that third strength day—hungrier, more tired, or feeling strong

For what it's worth, i’ve lost and regained before, so a flat scale makes me twitchy too. What’s helped me lately is picking one non-scale benchmark and logging it weekly—stairs without stopping, pushups before rest, which belt notch.

Did your squat jump come with the same depth/tempo and rest, or did those change too? My log once looked amazing because I was resting 90 seconds instead of 45 and calling it progress.

Either way, carrying all the groceries in one trip is the kind of win that actually shows up in real life.

The grocery-carry win is such a good marker—honestly more useful than a single morning weigh-in. When my scale sat still for a month, what finally moved my head was a cheap tape measure: waist at the navel and upper arm, same day each week.

The scale didn’t budge but the tape did, and my after-dinner walk felt easier. Are you tracking any of that, or just the gym log?

Also curious whether your third strength session changed how hungry you are on lift days—that always scrambles my snack habits.
