Kettlebell in the living room, ten minutes, before dinner

Curious what everyone's doing for movement today, because mine was small and I'm counting it anyway.

I've been doing ten minutes with a 15-pound kettlebell in the living room right before I start cooking — swings and squats, nothing fancy, no gym, no app. It started as a "just do something" experiment after work kept swallowing my evenings.

Tonight I got through the whole thing without setting it down once, which absolutely would not have happened a couple months ago.

The unexpected part: I'm noticeably less interested in my afternoon snack on the days I do it. Not a rule, just a pattern I keep seeing in my notes.

So what's on your plate today, movement-wise? Walks, stretching, yard work, chasing a toddler, deliberate rest day? I genuinely like hearing the small stuff — it keeps me from overcomplicating mine.

I’m stealing the before-dinner slot. Running a cafe means I’m on my feet all day, but it’s not real movement, and by close I’m wiped and grazing.

Today I did 7 minutes of squats and step-ups on the back stoop while the pasta water came to a boil, then left the kettlebell by the stove so “finding time” isn’t a thing. Sharp question: does moving before you cook actually quiet the tasting/spoon-licking while dinner comes together?

That’s my portion-control danger zone, so I’m curious if it helps or if I just end up hungrier.

Tbh i’ve been doing 8 min of kettlebell complexes (10 swings, 5 goblet squats, 30s rest) before dinner too. One thing I noticed with a CGM: a 10-min walk after dinner blunts my spike more than pre-dinner swings, but the swings make me actually start cooking instead of ordering.

In the trials, exercise timing effects are modest and variable, so I don’t overinterpret. Curious: do you count it as strength or just NEAT?

I log it as a “movement snack” and don’t chase calories.

Love a small-and-counted win. My version is a kettlebell parked next to the coffee maker: while the pot brews, I do 3 rounds of 10 deadlifts and 10 halos, then stop. No changing clothes, no mat.

It’s my “movement appetizer.” Curious — do you track these ten minutes anywhere, or is the win just that it happened? I go back and forth on
